Gym Equipment for Councils & Recreation Centres

Council leisure centres, aquatic and recreation centres and community gyms serve a wider range of people than almost any other facility. On the same morning you might have teenagers, shift workers, seniors' classes and people returning from injury. Nordic Fitness supplies commercial gym equipment, flooring and accessories to community facilities from our Perth base, Australia-wide. We're the exclusive Australian distributor of Jerai Fitness and Circle Fitness.

What community facilities need

Equipment for every ability. A good community gym has something for everyone: easy-to-use selectorised machines with light starting weights, accessible cardio such as recumbent bikes, and a free-weights and functional area for more experienced members.

Commercial durability. Recreation centres are open long hours, seven days a week. Commercial-rated equipment and a preventive maintenance program keep breakdowns, and member complaints, down.

Value over the life of the equipment. Councils need to show value for ratepayers. Choosing a reliable range with available spare parts, then maintaining it on a schedule, usually costs less over the equipment's life than replacing cheaper gear early.

Procurement and documentation. Council purchasing often involves quotations, tenders or panel arrangements, with itemised pricing and supporting documents.

Inclusive design. Clear walkways, space around machines, and equipment with easy access help make the gym welcoming for older users and people with limited mobility.

How we work with councils

Needs assessment and layout. We'll look at your space, membership and programs, and suggest an equipment mix and layout. See gym design and fit-outs.

Quotes and tenders. We provide itemised quotes and can respond to RFQs and tenders. See government tenders and supply.

Staged upgrades. Not every centre replaces everything at once. We can help you plan a staged replacement, starting with the equipment that's most worn or most in demand.

Installation with minimal disruption. We can plan delivery and installation around your opening hours, so the gym stays open where possible.

Maintenance contracts. Scheduled preventive maintenance with a detailed report for each visit, plus repairs for most makes and models.

Zoning a community gym

Most recreation centre gyms work best with clear zones:

  • Cardio zone: treadmills, bikes and ellipticals, ideally near the entrance and in view of staff, so new members feel comfortable.
  • Selectorised circuit: a logical sequence of machines (legs, push, pull, core) so members and instructors can follow a set program.
  • Plate-loaded and free weights: grouped together, with racks, benches and storage, away from main walkways.
  • Functional and small-group area: open floor with rubber flooring, a rig or functional trainer, and accessories for classes and PT.
  • Stretch and recovery area: mats and mobility tools.

Planning checklist

  1. Who uses the centre now, and who do you want to attract?
  2. What programs run in the gym and group fitness rooms?
  3. Which existing equipment can be kept, serviced or replaced?
  4. What procurement process applies (quotes, tender or panel)?
  5. When can installation happen with the least disruption to members?

Lead times and deposits

Some commercial equipment is held in stock in Perth. If a Jerai, Body-Solid Pro Dual or Steelflex item is out of stock, you can still order it: allow 45–90 days to site. A 50% deposit is required upfront on Jerai orders. We'll confirm current stock and timing with your quote, so you can plan your opening or refurbishment date.
