Maximising The Life Of Your Treadmill

Description :

Handy Hints For Maximizing The Life Of Your Treadmill

1. Never start the treadmill whilst you are standing on the mat. Always start off by straddling the mat with a foot on either side on the strip at the edge of the treadmill.

2. Do have a good quality pair of joggers which you keep inside as your treadmill shoes.   If you use shoes which you wear outside, sand and debris gets trapped in the grooves on the shoe sole and this gradually works its way free when you are using the treadmill and gets between the mat and the running board. This then cuts the shine off the running board which creates extra load on the treadmill motor.

3. Move the treadmill and vacuum where it has stood about once a fortnight. If you don't, dust will build up and eventually be sucked into the treadmill which once again will shorten the life of the motor and the running board.

4. About once a month take a clean piece of cotton rag ( an old t shirt is perfect ) and feed underneath the mat about half way down its length, so it is between the mat and the board with a piece sticking out from either side of the mat and extending across the side of the treadmill. Stand on the end pieces and start the treadmill at its slowest speed.   Let it do a couple of revolutions ( you will see the mat join go past a couple of times ) and stop the treadmill. This wipes any dust off the back of the treadmill mat. Once the treadmill has stopped pull the piece of rag out from under the mat and then fold your piece of rag, place over your hand and while lifting each side of the mat wipe the treadmill board from front to rear.

5. Once every 6 months unplug the treadmill cord from the wall socket so there is no power going into the treadmill. Remove the motor cover (usually 4 screws) and taking a soft brush - either a clean paint brush or dustpan brush, & very gently dust off any lint or dust which has accumulated on the electrics and once you have completed this take the vacuum cleaner and vacuum up the dislodged material. Be sure to only use a vacuum hose with plastic ends and fittings, replace the motor cover once the vacuuming is completed.

NB: Never touch the motor or electric components with your bare hands as some of them store a charge and you could get an electric shock!!
